The welfare of the animals in our care is our primary concern

Whilst we hope those that are with us are rehomed quickly, we make every effort to make sure their stay with us is a pleasant one, no matter how brief or long that stay may be.

PLEASE NOTE: For health & safety reasons, we are unable to accept volunteers under the age of 18, without a parent/guardian present.

Dog Walkers

For the dogs, that means make sure they are warm, dry and well fed but it also means making sure they get plenty of exercise! Volunteer dog walkers do a crucial job of giving the dogs a break from the kennels, keeping them fit and healthy and also make sure they remain socialised with people and other animals.

It has the added benefit of allowing us to assess their behaviour in certain situations, such as their reaction to meeting strange dogs, how they behave on the lead..and off it! And obviously the dogs have a great time!!

So if you have some time to spare, would like to get a bit of fresh air and exercise and would like a canine companion to accompany you, why not get in touch?

We like to meet all of our dog walkers first, just to make them aware of the general rules and procedures and also introduce them to the dogs so please call first to meet one of our other volunteers.

Cat Cuddlers

That may sound like a bit of a corny title, but our cat cuddlers play a really important role.

It’s important that our cats remain well socialised, for their own well being and to improve their chances of being successfully rehomed. As well as giving them human contact, and a break from general the general cattery routine, visitors give our cats much needed love and affection…and, of course, treats!!

Our regular cat cuddlers are also a great source of information as we rely on them for feedback about how the cats behave, their character, how they seem in themselves and their general level of health. Although we try to give our cats a comfortable living space, some cats don’t react well to being confined and our volunteers can spot early signs of stress so that we can take steps to combat this as quickly as possible.

So if you would like to spend a little time with some feline friends, why not get in touch? As long as you have a good supply of Dreamies and don’t mind going home covered in a little cat hair!
